Keyboard shortcuts

Every operation in the editor is reachable from the keyboard. This is the same table the ? sheet shows in the app — raised in whichever window you are working in, including a detached pane.

The ones worth learning first. Everything else on this page is findable; these are the ones you will use in the first ten minutes.

Transport

Space: Play / pause
← / →: Nudge playhead one frame
Shift + ← / →: Nudge playhead one second
Home / End: Go to start / end

Editing

⌘/Ctrl + Z: Undo
⇧ + ⌘/Ctrl + Z: Redo
⌘/Ctrl + K: Split selected clip at playhead
⌘/Ctrl + E: Effect palette for the selected clip
⌘/Ctrl + C: Copy clip
⌘/Ctrl + X: Cut clip (ripple)
⌘/Ctrl + V: Paste at playhead
⌘/Ctrl + D: Duplicate clip
⌘/Ctrl + A: Select every clip
Delete: Delete clip
Shift + Delete: Ripple delete (splice)
Drag empty track: Box-select clips (⇧ or ⌘/Ctrl to add)
I: Mark in at the playhead
O: Mark out at the playhead
⌥ + X: Clear the in and out marks

Tools

One tool for the whole editor rather than one per pane. A tool with no gesture over the frame simply doesn't appear in the preview's rack, and the preview then behaves as it does under Select.

V: Select tool
S: Scrub tool
C: Cut tool
X: Splice tool
Y: Trim tool
H: Hand tool
P: Pen tool
U: Shape tool
R: Crop tool
V: Move tool — while a shape is open for editing
B: Bend tool — while a shape is open for editing
Trim tool + ⌥ drag: Slide a clip — its neighbours absorb the move

Snapping and looping

N: Toggle snapping
K: Toggle keyframe snapping
L: Toggle loop region

View

F: Toggle follow playhead
+ / −: Zoom timeline in / out
⌘/Ctrl + wheel: Zoom at cursor (timeline & preview)
Double-click: Fit preview to window
